Do I need renter’s insurance to cover my stuff?

If you rent an apartment or a home, then yes, you need renters’ insurance. One reason is to cover
the cost of replacing your personal property. A renter could lose all of their personal belongings in
an event, like a fire. The property coverage of a renter’s policy will provide coverage for this. Some
people think that their landlord will pay for, or has coverage, for their tenant’s property. This is
virtually never the case!
In addition, a renter’s policy will provide liability
coverage. This will cover the medical bills for your
friends if they injure themselves at your place. For
example, falling down slippery stairs.
Last, this policy provides coverage for additional living
expenses. If you’re displaced from your home after a
covered loss then this policy will pay for additional
expenses like a hotel or the additional cost of rent.
Can you afford to replace all of your belongings if lost in a fire? Do you have the money for an
attorney, if someone claims you did something wrong that caused injury to them? Renters
insurance is very affordable and important for tenants.
